Medicine Restaurant
Tucked away in downtown San Francisco, near the Montgomery Street MUNI station, in a slightly upscale little mini mall called the Crocker Galleria, is a wonder of a restaurant.

Medicine stays very true to zen philosophy, opting to keep things simple and elegant.  This is reflected in its wide open floor plan, the broad wooden tables, the sumi ink brush paintings on the walls, the view into the brushed stainless steel kitchen, where the real wonders occur.

The food here is as carefully and precisely done as the decor.  Simplicity is the rule of the day, they start simple, and don't mess it up.  They have options for all tastes (like the curry noodles for those desiring a dish with overpowering flavor) but their real forte is the carefully crafted subtle sushi dishes, where unexpected ingredients like mango, mushrooms, exotic rices, and yuzu, come into full effect.    Try the tempura, it's wonderful.

The masterful selection of ingredients is reflected in the price, which is on the pricey side, but then, so is most sushi nowadays.  You won't find bargains, but the lunchtime bento box is surprisingly affordable, and a good way to get a taste or the place without draining your wallet.
